Sarah Wilmer

Statement
I take to the camera the way a sleeper takes to dreams; I watch a story unfurl in front of me. It may begin with fog rolling over the grass in Iceland but it could as easily be behind a gas station in Ohio. The whole process is very intimate and abstract. While I find photography to be an expressive medium, in truth, that which I photograph is simply a play on a sound stage somewhere else. The production is scouting, call sheets, assistants, subjects, rentals, taxis, receipts, banality, and other forms of technical infrastructure but the photograph is the reveal for a world infused with a certain amount of magic, beauty and hope.
