Statement
In my series Ratline I stage cinematic tableaux exploring the personal blended with fiction and political history. Ratline refers to a system of escape routes for Nazi and other war criminals fleeing Europe at the end of World War II. The photographs represent a non-linear study of a family burdened by the past of two of its members. I have directed my actors towards a non-naturalistic Brechtian acting style.
Similiar to the actors in Bertold Brecht’s epic theatre, my family figures are constructed to distance the viewer from the action and to bring awareness to the socio-political allegory within my work.
