Jérémie Egry – Réponse Floue
Morava Books, 2010
Edition of 100
ISBN: 978-83-926924-4-7
This new book by Morava features work by Jérémie Egry. I really like the way the publication is designed (Jérémie designed it himself), there is a lot of room for the images to float around the pages and breathe. The simplicity of this book is quite nice; it is printed and sequenced in a way that fits Jérémie’s work and aesthetic very well. I’m really looking forward to what Morava publishes in the future.

Jessica Hans – Felsgarten
Self Published, 2010
Edition of 100
I just received this in the mail from Jessica and am really impressed by the quality of this book. She always has very well-made objects; the binding, design, and printing all work nicely for this publication. The images in the book are from her rock collection and were made on the coast of Maine. The pacing and editing work well in a way to break up the imagery and insert pauses between similar images.

Estelle Hanania – Myriorama
Published on the occasion of the exhibition Myriorama at FAT Galerie in Paris, France by Gottlund Verlag
2010, edition of 300
ISBN: 978-0-9816855-7-1
I was really happy to see that Estelle Hanania was finally publishing a book as her work has been some of my favorite for a while, and even better that it was being published by Gottlund. The work in this book feels really genuine and original. Her work has a bit of a documentary feel, but the subject matter and handling of the imagery gets rid of the overbearing notion of this being a strict documentary photo-essay. The letterpress cover and binding are really nice, too.

Mariken Wessels – Queen Ann. P.S. Belly cut off
Published by Alauda Publications, 2010
ISBN: 978-90-815314-1-2
I got Mariken Wessel’s new book a couple of weeks ago and have been looking through it quite a bit since then. It is a great follow up to her last book, Elisabeth – I want to eat. It is a similar format in that is consists of found images mostly depicting the same subject, laid out in a way that produces a subtle narrative. Also reminiscent of the loose vellum sheets in her last book, this one comes with a glassine envelope of a few photographs. The photographs are reproductions of found images, but it is still a nice experience to have the comparison of a more physical object paired with the work in book. After seeing both of these books by Mariken, I’m really excited to see what will come next.
