Terence Hannum & Elijah Burgher – Cataract of Fire & Blood
Self Published in an edition of 100, 2010
I just got this book in the mail after seeing it on the Self Publish, Be Happy blog. I’m not familiar with either of the artists, but the subject matter of Terence Hannum’s paintings, black metal, was an instant draw for me. After flipping through the book a couple of times I’m really enjoying the pairing of these two artists and how their work relates to each other’s. Burgher’s works on paper have a nice morbid and subversive sensibility, they remind me a lot of a secret cult or society. His juxtaposition of men performing rituals and sigils works really well with Hannum’s dark paintings of black metal iconography. I’m excited to become more familiar with both artist’s work in the future.
